Overview: Face and Neck Loose Skin After Weight Loss
Weight loss injections, such as Ozempic® and Mounjaro® Wegovy®, are helping many people in the UK to slim down. A frequent after effect is loose skin and deflation of the face and neck. Jowls, banding in the neck and a lax jawline commonly develop. At Cosmetic Surgery Partners in London, we offer surgical and non surgical options to lift, refine and restore a natural look.
At Cosmetic Surgery Partners, face and neck procedures for loose skin after weight loss are performed by Mr Andrew Douglas. He is a fully qualified plastic surgeon on the GMC Specialist Register, with experience in facial and neck surgery. During your consultation, Mr Douglas will listen to your concerns, explain the surgical and non-surgical options available, and advise on whether treatment is appropriate for your individual needs.
Rapid weight change reduces facial volume and can reveal laxity in the skin and supporting ligaments. Age, genetics, sun exposure and previous weight cycles all influence elasticity. Skincare and energy based treatments can help quality, but significant laxity usually needs a surgical lift. Options may include a lower face and neck lift, a mini facelift, a neck lift with platysmaplasty, submental liposuction under the chin, and fat grafting to restore volume in the cheeks, temples or jawline. Light resurfacing or medical skincare can then improve texture.
You may be suitable if you are weight stable for at least 6 months, a non smoker or able to stop, and have realistic goals. Common concerns include persistent jowls, softening of the jawline, neck bands, a heavy under chin area and a deflated midface. Your consultation will assess skin quality, facial fat compartments, muscle tone and scar positions. Your surgeon will advise whether a mini facelift, a full lower face and neck lift or a staged plan is safest. Procedures such as blepharoplasty, brow lift, lip lift or chin and neck liposuction can be combined where appropriate.
Bruising and swelling are expected for 1 to 2 weeks by which time they can typically return to a desk job and social activity. During this time you will wear a support garment, sleep with the head elevated whilst avoiding heavy lifting and high impact exercise for 3 to 4 weeks, and follow your scar care plan. Incisions are hidden around the ear and occasionally one under the chin may be needed. Numbness and firmness reduce over several months as tissues settle.

A mini facelift can suit mild jowls and early laxity. Moderate to severe laxity or neck banding often benefits from a full lower face and neck lift.
Yes. Fat transfer is a great way to restore the volume loss from weight loss medications. If you are having a facelift to treat excess/sagging skin, then fat transfer can boost results giving an even more balanced face.
Energy based treatments and skincare can improve texture and mild laxity. Redundant skin usually needs surgery for a predictable lift.
Incisions are placed around natural curves of the ear and sometimes under the chin. They are pink at first, then settle and fade over 6 to 12 months with guided care.
Your surgeon and prescribing doctor will advise. Policies vary by anaesthetic team. You will receive clear pre-operative instructions.
Many patients return to desk work in 1 to 2 weeks. Gentle exercise restarts within 2 weeks. Strength training and high impact activity usually resume after 3 to 4 weeks with surgeon approval.
Results are long lasting, especially when weight is stable and sun protection is consistent. Natural ageing continues, but most patients feel fresher for many years.
Yes. Combining blepharoplasty or brow lift with a facelift can address upper face heaviness for a more complete rejuvenation when safe to do so.
